Apparently, I’ve been doing Kia sales for free.

Passengers like my Kia, the referral could pay $150, and I’m half joking about business cards—but has anyone actually gotten the check?

Passengers compliment my plug-in hybrid Kia all the time. The car ends up being part of the conversation, and I’m happy to talk about it because I like it.

Then I learned something: since I bought mine at Coastal Kia here in Wilmington, I can get $150 if someone I refer buys a car there.

Well, damn. That would have been useful to know a few compliments ago.

So now I’m printing business cards.

“Enjoyed the ride? Wait until you hear about my extremely unofficial position in Kia sales.”

Half joking. About the cards. Completely serious about the $150.

I’m already driving the car, answering questions, and telling people where I bought it. Apparently, there’s a version of this conversation where I get paid.

To be clear, I haven’t earned a referral check yet. Right now, this is a promising side quest.

Anyone else actually getting paid for car referrals from passengers? What dealership, how much, and did the check show up?
